Abdul Wahid Tanveer wins MRF 2W Rally of Coimbatore for Team Petronas TVS Racing
Abdul Wahid Tanveer won the MRF 2W Rally of Coimbatore in Coimbatore on Sunday, taking the overall victory for Team Petronas TVS Racing. He completed the event aboard a TVS RTR 450cc to finish first in the entry field.
The stages laid out for the rally were described as new, tight and technical, presenting a compact challenge for competitors. Tanveer, a Mysuru-based rider, had to fight early in the event to forge an initial advantage. After securing that lead, he steadily increased his margin through the remaining sections to the finish.
“Coimbatore has been my favourite track for a very long time but, this time around, the stages were long, pretty fast and slippery. It was pretty close in the first but thereafter I pushed myself midway through to take the day’s honour,” said Tanveer. His stronger midpoint performance proved decisive in extending the gap over his rivals.
Shlok Vikram Ghorpade of Team Hero Motosports finished second overall with a recorded time of 00:48:00, while Samuel Jacob (Team Petronas TVS Racing) completed the Class 1 (Super Bike Pro Expert) podium. Tanveer's winning time in Class 1 was 00:47:27.
Class 2 (Super Bike Expert) saw R. Nataraj of Mysuru top the category in 00:48:54, followed by V.S. Naresh (Bengaluru) in 00:51:15 and Amogh Nag (Bengaluru) in 00:51:46. In Class 3 (Super Sport up to 165cc) Group B, L. Nithyan finished first in 00:53:25, L. Bharath was second in 00:54:01 and Varun Kumar third in 00:55:37; all three are listed as from Bengaluru.
Team Petronas TVS Racing's Aishwarya Pissay topped the women's class, while Deepan Kumar won the Star of Tamil Nadu category. Prizes at the event were presented by Joseph Mahalson, Coimbatore District Manager, MRF Limited.
