Thirty-two teams across Asia began the AFC Champions League Two 2026-27 group stage, with matchday 1 played between September 15 and 17 and opening fixtures hosted in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

After eight teams contested a preliminary stage and four winners advanced, the group phase is organised into East and West regions, each containing 16 teams split into four groups of four.

In the West region, Al-Kuwait raced into a two-goal lead inside eight minutes, but the hosts overturned that advantage by scoring in the 87th minute and again in the 97th to claim all three points. Al-Khaldiya and FC Nasaf finished their meeting level at 0–0, while FK Arkadag — who had beaten FC Goa in the preliminary stage to qualify for the group phase — opened with a 1–0 win over Al-Muharraq SC. Gol Gohar and Al Jazira also played out a goalless draw.

Al-Rayyan overturned a tense game to beat Al-Faisaly 4–3 after having been 3–0 up at one point in the first half. Al-Taawoun conceded in the 81st minute against Al-Nahda and had to settle for a point. In Group D, East Bengal took a two-goal lead into half-time but were pegged back as Al Hussein SC fought to a 2–2 draw; Al-Shorta recorded a narrow 1–0 victory over Al-Seeb with Mohanad Ali scoring the decisive goal.

Persib Bandung opened their campaign with a 1–0 win over FC Seoul courtesy of an early goal from Julio Cesar, while Melbourne Victory and The Cong–Viettel drew 1–1. Adelaide United produced the largest margin of victory on matchday 1 with a 3–0 success against Tai Po FC, and Lion City Sailors were held 1–1 at home by BG Pathum United.

Machida Zelvia began with a 2–0 victory over PKR Svay Rieng, the club where former Chennaiyin FC player Connor Shields and Kerala Blasters player Kwame Peprah currently play. Shanghai Shenhua beat Tampines Rovers 2–1, making Group G the first group on matchday 1 in which both matches produced winners. Phnom Penh Crown FC edged Kuching City 2–1 thanks to a 91st-minute winner from John Dyer, and Gangwon FC and Kitchee SC played to a 0–0 draw.

The competition’s structure means the top two teams from each group will advance to a 16-team knockout round of 16, with eight qualifiers coming from each region.
