Afghanistan asks BCCI to consider moving one India T20I to September 14

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has opened talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about moving one match of the upcoming three‑match T20I series in New Delhi to September 14, days after the series dates were confirmed. All three fixtures are scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and the series was due to begin on September 13.

Sources told India Today that the ACB requested that either the first or second T20I be shifted to September 14, a date that falls on Ganesh Chaturthi. The current schedule lists matches on September 13, September 15 and September 17. The ACB’s proposal would therefore bring forward or relocate either the opening game or the second fixture to September 14.

Officials say the change would not alter the number of matches in the tour but would place an India‑Afghanistan T20I on a festival day in the Indian capital. The ACB’s request would mean either the September 13 or September 15 fixture is shifted to September 14. Any such change would need to be agreed by the BCCI before the schedule can be altered.

The three‑match series has been designated as Afghanistan’s home fixtures under the Future Tours Programme despite being hosted in India. The arrangement continues Afghanistan’s practice of staging international matches in India when circumstances prevent fixtures from being played in Afghanistan.

The proposed Afghanistan series arrives amid a congested September for India’s white‑ball calendar. India’s proposed white‑ball tour of Bangladesh remains uncertain, with the two sides yet to resolve the issues surrounding the postponed series and Bangladesh continuing to express hope the tour can be revived.

Any fresh proposal for the Bangladesh tour would require the BCCI to consult the Indian government. For now, the Afghanistan T20Is remain the confirmed fixtures for India in that mid‑September window.

The immediate next step is BCCI agreement on the ACB’s request before any alteration is made to the published schedule.
