Afghanistan Cricket Board awards India T20I media rights to Pakistan’s TransGroup
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has awarded the commercial and television production rights for the India vs Afghanistan T20I series to Pakistan-based TransGroup, and the ACB said the schedule and partner details were announced when it released the series dates on August 12. The three-match series will be played in India, with fixtures set across mid-September.
TransGroup is described by the ACB as Pakistan-based and is associated with the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The report notes that "TransGroup has not been friendly with its approach towards India." Media coverage has suggested the series could generate at least 10 million dollars in revenue for Pakistan, which could potentially be used for anti-India propaganda. In its announcement the ACB listed its commercial and broadcast partners, stating: “Vany continues as ACB’s long-term Clothing Partner; TG (TransGroup) will serve as ACB’s Global Media Rights Syndication Partner, TPT360 as the Media Production Partner, and FanCode as the Official Streaming Partner for the series in the Indian territory.”
The matches carry particular administrative significance for Afghanistan because the ACB described the event as the first bilateral series between the two countries to be hosted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, even though the fixtures will take place on Indian soil. Afghanistan has continued to stage home internationals away from its borders, with the ACB noting reliance on overseas venues. The ACB identified India and the United Arab Emirates as regular bases used in recent years, linking that practice to the lack of international cricket inside Afghanistan.
The ACB’s schedule sets the three T20 internationals for September, with the first T20I on September 13, the second on September 15 and the third on September 17. The board’s August 12 announcement included those specific dates alongside the naming of commercial and broadcast partners.
The two sides have met frequently across formats in recent seasons, including a tour of India in June 2026 that comprised a one-off Test followed by three One-Day Internationals. India won that ODI series 3-0, with matches on that tour contested in Dharamsala, Lucknow and Chennai.
Their most recent bilateral T20I series prior to this schedule came in January 2024, when India completed a 3-0 sweep. The third T20I in that January series, staged in Bengaluru, finished with both teams posting 212 and India prevailing in a second Super Over.
The ACB characterised the upcoming encounter as another chapter in the sides’ growing cricketing relationship, and the first T20I is confirmed for September 13, followed by matches on September 15 and September 17.
