Ajit Agarkar reported set to name India squad for home West Indies white-ball series

India selector Ajit Agarkar is reported to be due to pick the squad for the home white-ball series against the West Indies on September 16, 2026, Abhishek Tripathi of Dainik Jagron wrote, with his contract extension reportedly still pending and the meeting possibly his final selection as chairman.

India enters a lengthy white-ball programme that includes both 20-over and 50-over formats amid a crowded international schedule, creating intense competition between established players and younger contenders for places in the side. Agarkar’s role in that process carries added attention because his tenure as chairman of the BCCI senior men’s selection committee began on July 4, 2023 and is due to end in September 2026, with no announcement yet about an extension.

The West Indies tour will feature three One-Day Internationals followed by a five-match T20I series. The ODI selections are expected to include the returns of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant are among the players anticipated to rejoin the Indian limited-overs setup.

For Agarkar, the timing of the selection meeting adds another layer to an already significant decision-making process; if the BCCI decides against extending his contract, the squad chosen for the West Indies series could be the last he names as chairman of the selection committee.
