East Bengal FC lost 2-0 to Al-Seeb Club at the Salt Lake Stadium in a Group D AFC Champions League Two fixture on Tuesday, with two late goals deciding the match. East Bengal enjoyed greater possession and created several openings but failed to convert, while Oman goalkeeper Ibrahim Al Mukhaini produced a string of important saves.

Dani Ramirez came close in the 10th minute with a left-footed effort that narrowly missed the target. In the 20th minute Ibrahim Al Mukhaini denied Edmund Lalrindika and the rebound was headed wide by captain Mohammed Rashid. The goalkeeper again frustrated Ramirez with an excellent stop in the 33rd minute.

Al-Seeb threatened early in the second half when Axel Meye headed over from a corner in the 48th minute. In the 61st minute Ibrahim produced a magnificent save to deny Ramirez after a move involving Jay Gupta and substitute Ake Loba. East Bengal custodian Phurba Lachenpa then made an excellent reflex save in the 76th minute to deny Omar Almalki, who subsequently missed the rebound.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 85th minute when Meye controlled Hassan Al-Ajmi’s cross, beat defender Sandip Mandi and fired home. Meye then turned provider in stoppage time, setting up substitute Zahir Al-Aghbari, who went up unchallenged and calmly slotted home in the 90+1st minute. The result: East Bengal FC 0 lost to Al-Seeb Club 2 (Axel Meye 85, Zahir Sulaiman 90+1).

The defeat left East Bengal at the bottom of Group D with two points, while Al-Seeb moved to third with four points.
