Alcaraz to meet Basilashvili in Vienna Open second round on October 29

Carlos Alcaraz will face Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round of the Vienna Open at the Wiener Stadthalle on October 29, 2026.

The second-seeded Spaniard, World No. 3, is seeking a fourth title of the season after winning the Australian Open, Doha and Tokyo, and is making his first Vienna appearance since 2021; he opened his campaign with a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over former finalist Karen Khachanov in just over two hours.

Khachanov saved three match points at 5-4 and appeared set to force a decider before Alcaraz recovered to close out the tiebreak; Alcaraz won 80% of points on his first serve and extended his head-to-head advantage over Khachanov to 7-0.

Nikoloz Basilashvili reached the second round with a straight-sets win over Jurij Rodionov, defeating the Austrian 7-6(3), 6-1 in 94 minutes while winning 75% of points on his first serve and converting three break points; the Tbilisi native recorded his maiden tour-level win against Rodionov.

The pair have met twice previously on tour with Alcaraz leading their head-to-head 2-0, having won their most recent encounter at the 2022 ATP Masters 1000 Madrid in straight sets; the Vienna meeting will be their third tour match-up.
