Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has withdrawn from England duty after sustaining a thigh injury following his full England debut in Saturday’s 7-0 UEFA Nations League win over Croatia in Rijeka, and is facing a layoff of six to eight weeks.

The 23-year-old has been a leading performer for Bournemouth this season, starting six of seven games in all competitions and playing almost every minute of their Premier League campaign to date; the club sit 17th and have yet to record a win under Marco Rose. Reports indicate Scott could miss as many as 10 matches for the Cherries, including upcoming fixtures against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Telegraph Sport reported that Scott first experienced a thigh problem a few days before the Croatia match but still played 70 minutes in Rijeka before withdrawing from international duty. Club and national medical staff subsequently ruled him out of the remainder of the current international window.

England’s selection was altered after Scott’s withdrawal: James Garner replaced him during the win over Croatia and is said to be in line for a starting berth against the Czech Republic on Tuesday. Scott’s absence removes him from contention for England’s next scheduled match.

Scott has attracted transfer interest within the Premier League this year, with several clubs linked to moves; Chelsea are described in reports as leading the pursuit and having made multiple bids for the midfielder during the summer transfer window.

A social media post accompanying early coverage stated: "Alex Scott has withdrawn from the England squad to face the Czech Republic on Tuesday with a thigh injury ❌He is set to be out for six to eight weeks with the quadriceps issue ahead of a busy few weeks for his club Bournemouth, who are due to play nine games between 10 October… pic.twitter.com/sB360lMKKy"

The immediate outlook for Scott is a six- to eight-week recovery period, a timeframe that coincides with a congested run of fixtures for Bournemouth beginning around 10 October and raises the possibility he will miss a significant portion of the club’s upcoming schedule.
