Alice Kinsella named in GB squad for World Championships in Rotterdam a year after giving birth

Alice Kinsella has been selected for the Great Britain team at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, which run from 17-25 October, one year after she gave birth.

The 25-year-old, a two-time European champion and Olympic bronze medallist, was part of Great Britain’s women's team that took bronze at Tokyo 2020 and became the first British artistic gymnast to resume competition after giving birth when she finished fourth on beam at the British Championships in March; she also got married over the summer.

Kinsella will compete in Rotterdam alongside world medallists Abigail Martin, Ruby Evans, Becky Downie and Alia Leat, who were all named in the women's squad for the championships.

Reacting to her selection, Kinsella said: "I can't put into words with how I'm feeling right now, my goal was always to be ready to compete properly next year and to now say I'm going to the World Championships just feels completely surreal," and added: "I feel so incredibly proud of this achievement. To think I'm going to the World Championships just over a year postpartum is insane. "It's been a tough year but I don't regret my decision in coming back to elite sport at all, it was always the goal of mine and there was nothing stopping me from reaching that goal. "I can't wait to tell this story to Parker when he's all grown up, it's a big one to tell!"

The men's team for Britain will include double world champion Jake Jarman and Olympic bronze medallist Harry Hepworth, with Scotland's Reuben Ward, three-time world medal winner Joe Fraser and double world medallist Courtney Tulloch also selected to feature.

The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam take place from 17-25 October, where the named British men's and women's gymnasts will compete.
