On 24 August 2026 at Fairhaven Golf Club, English amateur Allan Harrison carded eight birdies across nine holes in the first round of the Silver Pheasant tournament. England Golf calculated the probability of any amateur achieving eight birdies in nine holes as one in 322 billion.

Harrison began his round with four dropped shots on the front nine before stopping at the halfway house for a pasty and a drink, a break that preceded a remarkable run of seven consecutive birdies and eight birdies in nine holes. The 64-year-old holds a 0.4 handicap, and England Golf estimated the odds for a player of his rating at one in 455,000. He has previously played foursomes with Tommy Fleetwood at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club.

"I was four over after the front nine," Harrison said. "I went into the halfway house, had a pasty and a drink, and the lads laughed when I said I'd start the back nine fresh."

Harrison’s only par on the back nine came at the 157-yard par-three 17th, where his tee-shot nearly went in. "My playing partner pointed out the pitch mark and said I must've nearly holed out - but it ran six feet past and I misread the putt," said Harrison.

For context, the leader in birdie average on the PGA Tour typically records around 4.8-5.0 birdies per 18 holes, which equates to 2.5 per nine holes. Had Harrison produced nine consecutive birdies he would have matched the PGA Tour record of nine in a row set by Mark Calcavecchia at the 2009 Canadian Open and by Kevin Chappell at the Greenbrier in 2019.

England Golf’s probability assessment underlined how uncommon Harrison’s sequence was, but he is not the only player to achieve eight birdies in nine holes in 2026; Australian Amelia Harris, 18, carded eight in nine on her back nine in the first round of the US Girls' Junior tournament in Durham, North Carolina last month. After his opening-round performance, Harrison led the Silver Pheasant tournament on 40 points.

Harrison was unable to reproduce his back-nine surge on the second day and ultimately finished second overall in the Silver Pheasant tournament.
