Amy Hunt wins 100m gold for Great Britain at European Championships

Amy Hunt won the women's 100 metres at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on August 10, 2026, claiming her first senior international title and delivering Great Britain's first gold of the meet at Alexander Stadium. She crossed the line in 11.00 seconds.

The 24-year-old had announced herself on the global stage last year by claiming world 200m silver in Tokyo, which was the first individual international medal of her senior career. She followed that with Commonwealth 100m silver two weeks ago. This season she has broken the 11-second barrier for the first time.

In the final Hunt moved from fifth in the opening stages to first over the second half of the race through a trademark strong finish. She raised her arms in celebration as she secured the victory.

Poland's Ewa Swoboda (11.02) and Belgium's Delphine Nkansa (11.06) completed the podium. British defending champion Dina Asher-Smith finished fifth in 11.10; she had been bidding to win her seventh gold and become the joint-most successful athlete in the history of the championships.

Hunt's gold was Great Britain's second medal on the opening day, the hosts having earlier taken silver in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Hunt could have as many as three further opportunities to add to that tally on home soil, in the 200m and both the women's and mixed 4x100m relay events later this week.
