Ankita and Mogali Venkatram Reddy established meet records on Sunday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the fourth and final day of the 65th National Open Athletics Championships. Two meet records were recorded on the day amid a range of personal best performances across track and field.

Ankita lowered Lalita Babar’s 11-year-old women’s 3000m steeplechase mark from 2015, finishing in 9:34.86. The 24-year-old represents Railways Sports Promotion Board. Mogali Venkatram Reddy, 21 and the 2025 junior National champion, claimed the senior men’s 800m in a personal best 1:47.01 for a meet record, with Mohd. Afsal withdrawing midrace. Several other athletes registered season or personal bests as the championships concluded.

In the women’s 3000m steeplechase Ankita finished first in 9:34.86, Vandana Mori (Guj) took second in 10:00.02 and Komal Jagdale (RSPB) was third in 10:05.34. Ankita’s performance improved on the long-standing meet standard by nearly four seconds according to the meet report.

The men’s 800m podium featured Mogali Venkatram Reddy (AP) in 1:47.01, Aman Kumar (SSCB) in 1:47.33 and Anant Gautam (Del) in 1:48.03. The race outcome awarded the senior title to Mogali following his junior championship the previous year.

The men’s sprint events produced a personal best in the 200m for Jishnu Prasad PK (AIPSCB), who won in 20.62s ahead of Abhin Devadiga (RSPB, 20.91s) and Adesh Garsa (Raj, 20.96s). In the 400m hurdles Murad Sirman (SSCB) recorded 49.86s, Shakti Singh (SSCB) 50.13s and Aryan Kashyap (Kar) 50.38s. The men’s 3000m steeplechase was won by Sharukh Khan (RSPB, 8:30.54), with Price Raj Mishra (RSPB, 8:31.38) second and Sumit Rathee (ONGC, 8:36.17) third; the RSPB quartet won the men’s 4x400m relay in 3:06.36.

Field-event winners on Day 4 included Mohd. Sazid in the men’s long jump with 7.99m, Sarun Payasingh (Odi) 7.79m and Sunny (Bih) 7.65m. In the men’s javelin Aditya (Har) threw 79.40m, Anand Singh (SSCB) 77.77m and Arshdeep Singh (RSPB) 77.56m.

Women’s track and combined-events winners included Priyanka Sikarwar (AIPSCB) in the 200m with 23.68s, Lili Das (RSPB) in the 800m with 2:05.37 and Sinchal (RSPB) in the 400m hurdles with 58.40s. The RSPB women won the 4x400m relay in 3:38.40; Ramandeep Kaur (RSPB) claimed the women’s marathon race walk in 3:59.23 in an event that had five entries and two non-finishers. Reet Rathore (UP) won the high jump at 1.78m and Pooja (RSPB) topped the heptathlon with 5468 points.
