Arthur Fery has been named in Great Britain’s Davis Cup team to face Ecuador at London’s Copper Box Arena in a World Group tie on 19 and 20 September. The 24-year-old’s inclusion was announced ahead of the two-day, best-of-five encounter.

"I am really proud to be able to represent GB again," Fery said. "It is going to be a bit of a different scenario this time, at home, in the World Group and trying to qualify for the final eight. "There might be some extra pressure, but I'm ready for it." This will be Fery's first outing in England since Wimbledon after he rose to a career-high world ranking of 36 following his surprise run at his home Grand Slam as a wildcard; he had been ranked 114th before the tournament and became the lowest-ranked player to reach Wimbledon's last four since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.

British number one Cameron Norrie is part of the announced four-man squad alongside Jacob Fearnley, Henry Patten and Lloyd Glasspool. Jack Draper is not included in the selection, and a fifth player will be added closer to the tie.

Draper, 24, broke down in tears earlier this month midway through his first match since June amid long-term injury difficulties. A persistent arm injury has kept him sidelined and caused his world ranking to plummet from fourth to as low as 160th over a 12-month period.

The tie is scheduled as a best-of-five contest across two days on 19 and 20 September, with two singles matches on day one and a doubles match followed by two singles on day two.

The World Group fixture offers Great Britain the opportunity to qualify for the final eight of the competition, with the squad to be completed by the announcement of the fifth player closer to the tie.
