Ashish Yadav takes silver in men’s javelin at World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene

On the third day of the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, Ashish Yadav won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw.

Yadav produced a third-round effort of 74.09m to claim second place, while fellow Indian finalist T. Dharanidharan finished sixth with a best of 72.35m; Yadav is 19 years old and was one of two Indians competing in the final.

Yadav becomes the second Indian to win a silver medal in this event at the U20 championships, following Neeraj Chopra; Chopra is a two-time Olympic medallist who won gold and set the world junior record of 86.48m in the 2016 edition in Poland.

The gold medal was won by South Africa’s Jan-Hendrik Heymans, who delivered an 80.50m throw on his sixth and final attempt, a mark listed as the season’s U20 world lead.
