He suggested Virat Kohli might prefer a break from cricket before considering coaching roles.
Ashwin said growing franchise cricket is creating specialist positions for retired players, adding that roles such as mentor and director of cricket will become increasingly common.
He also said Rohit's tactical acumen makes him invaluable for the Mumbai Indians post-retirement.
