The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 will conclude on Sunday, October 4, when athletes, members of the organising committee and Olympic Council of Asia officials gather for the closing ceremony at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya. The ceremony will bring the 16-day event to an end.

The closing programme will follow the usual format, with athletes entering the stadium together rather than in strict country order and each nation’s flag carried by a chosen athlete. At Hangzhou 2023, P. R. Sreejesh had the honour of being India’s flagbearer in his farewell Games. This year shooter Neeru Dhanda has been named India’s flag bearer for the ceremony.

Speeches will be delivered by members of the organising committee and the Olympic Council of Asia, who will thank volunteers, athletes and the host region and formally declare the Games closed. The Games flame will then be extinguished. The ceremony will include the customary handover to the next host, with the Asian Games flag passed on to Doha for the 2030 edition and Qatar expected to present a short segment about what to expect, while Japan will close its portion with a cultural performance and music.

Neeru Dhanda was India’s most successful athlete in Nagoya: she won gold in the women’s individual trap, scoring 28 in the final, above the previous Asian record of 24, and became the first Indian woman to win Asian Games gold in trap and the first Indian shooter to win the women’s trap individual title. She added a second gold a day later when she and Kynan Chenai won the mixed team trap with 34 hits out of 40 in the final, an Asian and Games record. Dhanda also won a silver in the women’s team event.

India arrived at Aichi-Nagoya aiming to match its Hangzhou record of more than 100 medals, and the campaign produced a mixture of successes and disappointments for the country, with several takeaways cited ahead of the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM IST (6 PM local time) on Sunday, October 4 at Paloma Mizuho Stadium, also known as the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. The Paloma Mizuho Stadium also hosted the opening ceremony.

Indian viewers can watch the closing ceremony and the full Games live on Sony Sports Network channels, with live streaming available on the Sony LIV app and website.
