Asian Games 2026 Day 7: India wins seven medals including kabaddi double gold, squash reaches two finals
India won seven medals, including two golds, on Saturday at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, taking its overall count to 30 and moving back into the top 10 of the medal table.
The day’s standout results were the successful title defenses by both the men’s and women’s kabaddi teams and two squash finalists for India, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh. Anahat, 18, recovered from a 0-2 deficit and saved two match points to beat home favourite Satomi Watanabe and reach the women’s singles final, while Abhay Singh defeated Pakistan’s Mohammad Irfan in the men’s singles semi-finals. In mixed doubles squash, Velavan Senthilkumar and Joshana Chinappa finished with bronze.
India opened the day on the athletics front when Sawan Barwal claimed silver in the men’s marathon, recording a personal best and earning what the report described as a historic medal after 44 years. Later, Tajinderpal Singh Toor took silver in the men’s shot put; Toor entered the event as the two-time defending champion holding the Asian Games record, and Iran’s Tayebise Mohammareza broke the Games record to win gold. The coverage noted this was Toor’s third consecutive Asian Games medal.
Other track-and-field outcomes included Prachi Choudhary’s bronze in the women’s 400m with a time listed as 53.21m. Decathlete Tejaswin Shankar placed first in the long jump and high jump components and was in the gold-medal position at the end of day one of the decathlon.
Shooting produced a team silver as Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod finished second in the women’s 50m rifle three positions team event, representing India’s 11th medal from the shooting contingent. In archery, Dhiraj Bommadevara broke the Asian Games record to top the men’s recurve individual event, while Chikitha Taniparthi led the women’s compound individual qualification; both archers and their teammates finished second in their respective team events. In qualification rounds, Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi topped the compound mixed team list, and Dhiraj Bommadevara with Kumkum Mohod were second in the recurve mixed team qualification.
Badminton and boxing produced mixed fortunes: Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty were eliminated from men’s singles, ending India’s men’s singles run, while PV Sindhu, Unnati Hooda and the women’s doubles pair of Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly advanced to the quarter-finals; the Treesa–Gayatri duo defeated World No. 3 Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto to reach the last eight. In boxing, Jadumani Singh lost in the round of 16, whereas Kapil Pokhariya and boxer Priya progressed to quarterfinals. The Indian hockey team completed the league stage unbeaten with a 2-0 Group A win over hosts Japan; efforts in canoeing, esports and fencing fell short of medal contention, and India’s table tennis campaign ended when Yashaswini Ghorpade and Manush Shah lost in the pre-quarterfinals.
India’s Day 7 medal list comprised the women’s kabaddi team (GOLD), the men’s kabaddi team (GOLD), Tajinderpal Singh Toor (SILVER), Sawan Barwal (SILVER), the shooting trio Ashi Chouksey/Tilottama Sen/Vidarsa Vinod (SILVER) and Joshna Chinappa & Velavan Senthilkumar (BRONZE). At the close of Day 7 India’s overall haul stood at 30 medals: 4 Gold, 12 Silver and 14 Bronze.
