India’s contingent added five medals at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, September 23, raising the country’s total to 12 — one gold, five silver and six bronze. Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women’s 49kg weightlifting, and India also secured bronzes in the men’s and women’s skeet team events, men’s singles soft tennis and the men’s badminton team event.

The women’s cricket team remains India’s only gold medallist so far, while shooting has been the nation’s largest contributor with seven medals. Roshibina Devi guaranteed at least a silver after advancing to the women’s 60kg Sanda gold-medal bout. India’s Day 4 activity spanned shooting, weightlifting, soft tennis, badminton and wushu, producing the five medals and several near-misses.

Mirabai Chanu secured her maiden Asian Games medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting by lifting 87kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 198kg; North Korea’s Ri Song Gum took gold. Chanu had finished fourth at the 2022 Asian Games after suffering an injury during that competition.

In women’s 10m air pistol team competition Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh finished fourth after tying with Vietnam on 1719 points; Vietnam claimed bronze on inner-10s, 46 to India’s 44. Bhaker placed fifth in the individual final, while Esha Singh and Suruchi Singh did not qualify for the individual final. India collected two skeet team bronzes: the men’s trio of Anantjeet Naruka, Mairaj Khan and Bhavtegh Gill, and the women’s trio of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Maheshwari Chauhan. In the individual skeet events Anantjeet and Raiza finished fourth, Parinaaz eighth, and Mairaj, Bhavtegh and Maheshwari did not make their respective finals.

Jay Meena became India’s first-ever Asian Games medallist in soft tennis after beating the Philippines’ Sherwin Nuguit in the quarter-final and then losing to Japan’s Takuya Kurosaka in the semi-final to take bronze. The men’s badminton team secured bronze after reaching the semi-finals; India had beaten Japan 3-0 in the quarter-finals on September 22 and then lost 1-3 to China in the semis, following a silver at Hangzhou 2022 in the same event.

Roshibina Devi defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas in the women’s 60kg Sanda semi-final to advance to the gold-medal bout and thus assured at least a silver. Roshibina had won bronze at Jakarta 2018 and silver at Hangzhou 2022, and she will face China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the women’s 60kg Sanda gold-medal match on Day 5.

Day 5 will present further medal opportunities across multiple sports: rowing features Final A races with Indian crews entered in men’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, lightweight women’s events, women’s pair, men’s quadruple sculls and men’s four. Shooting will offer medals in the men’s 10m air pistol and mixed team skeet, with Kamaljeet, Aakash Bharadwaj and Kedarling Uchaganve slated for the men’s 10m air pistol and Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal among India’s mixed skeet entries. Athletics will include the women’s triple jump and women’s 10,000m finals plus the mixed 4x400m relay final (subject to qualification), while canoe sprint, swimming and artistic gymnastics (women’s vault) also feature medal events with Indian athletes in contention subject to qualification.

India sits 13th on the overall medal table after Day 4; China leads the standings with 78 medals (48 gold, 20 silver, 10 bronze), followed by Japan with 67 and South Korea with 41.
