Asian Games 2026: India chase medals in teqball, shooting, wushu and swimming on September 20
India will contest multiple medal events at the Asian Games 2026 on Sunday, September 20, with athletes scheduled across teqball, shooting, wushu, swimming and team sports.
The official opening ceremony took place on Saturday and matches in some sports have already begun; India’s programme on September 20 features contests in teqball, shooting, cricket, hockey, badminton and table tennis. Quimcy Dsouza is in contention for two bronze medals in teqball, Suraj Singh Mayanglambam is an outside medal chance in Wushu, both men’s and women’s hockey teams begin their pool matches, and the Indian women’s cricket team led by Harmanpreet Kaur meet Bangladesh in the semi-final.
In teqball Quimcy Dsouza will first play the women’s singles bronze-medal match against Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto and will later partner Mohamed Anas Imran Beg in the mixed doubles bronze-medal match versus Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh. The Indian mixed doubles pair had lost to the Vietnamese combination in the quarter-finals and now have another opportunity to finish on the podium.
India’s entry in the women’s 10m air rifle comprises Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod, with individual qualification scheduled from 6:15 AM IST; that qualification round also serves as the teams medal event. Shooters must place in the top eight in qualification to reach the final, which is scheduled later in the day. Elavenil is noted in the report for senior international final experience, while Sonam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod have shown high averages across national trials and junior international circuits.
The men’s changquan final in Wushu is set to begin at 5:30 am; Changquan is contested as a single-round routine judged on aerial difficulty, acrobatics and technical landing execution. The report states that, going head-to-head against traditional East Asian giants (China, Japan, South Korea), a podium finish will require an error-free routine. Suraj Singh Mayanglambam is India’s named contender in the event.
