Asian Games 2026: India climb to 10th after Day 7 as kabaddi teams win gold

India produced its strongest single-day haul at the Asian Games 2026 on September 26, claiming both kabaddi golds and taking its overall medal count to 30, including four golds. The double kabaddi success was complemented by medals in athletics, shooting and squash during Day 7 of the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
India’s women’s kabaddi team beat Iran 37-34 as Sanju Devi and Pushpa Rana stood firm during an Iranian second-half fightback, while the men overcame an 18-17 halftime deficit to win 40-34 with Jaideep Dahiya, Sumit Sangwan, Arjun Deshwal and Aslam Inamdar instrumental in the finishing stages; the men’s victory gave India its ninth kabaddi gold at the Games. Sawan Barwal won marathon silver in a national-record 2:11:37 behind Japan’s Ichitaka Yamashita, and Tajinderpal Singh Toor took silver in the men’s shot put as Iran’s Mohammadreza Tayebi broke the Games record for gold.

The women’s 50m rifle 3-positions team of Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod secured silver, and in squash Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar claimed mixed doubles bronze. India’s singles pair Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh advanced to the squash singles finals after defeating Japan’s Satomi Watanabe and Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan respectively.
China’s Chen Yuxi and Lu Wei won the women’s synchronised 10m platform gold with 347.82 points ahead of North Korea’s Jo Jin Mi and Kim Mi Rae, while South Korea’s Kim Nahyun and Moon Nayun took bronze. In the men’s synchronised 3m springboard, Wang Zongyuan and Zheng Jiuyuan of China scored 465.87 to win gold, with Japan’s Ikuma Senri and Suyama Haruki second and Malaysia’s Yong Rui Jie and Mohammad Nurqayyum third. In women’s basketball, South Korea defeated Japan 75-70 to take gold and China beat Chinese Taipei for bronze; basketball concluded today in the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Japan’s Yuki Kurihara beat South Korea’s Kang Dongshin 10-2 to win the Puyo Puyo Champions final, and South Korea won the Fighting Games team gold by defeating Japan 5-2. In fencing, Japan edged South Korea 29-28 in the women’s foil team final, while South Korea beat Japan 45-44 in the men’s sabre team final. In shooting, China’s Han Jiayu won the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions with 359.0, Zhang Liyuan was second on 358.8 and South Korea’s Kim Jieun took bronze with 348.4.
Weightlifting saw Indonesia’s Abdullah Rahmat Erwin win the men’s 75kg with a 366kg total, followed by Thailand’s Wichuma Weeraporn and North Korea’s Ri Chong Song. In the 70kg category, North Korea’s Ri Won Ju topped the event with 349kg ahead of Japan’s Miyamoto Masanori and the Philippines’ Delos Santos Albert Ian. On Day 7 India added seven medals—two golds, three silvers and two bronzes—bringing its overall tally to 30 (4 gold, 12 silver, 14 bronze) and moving the country into 10th position; China, Japan and South Korea remained the top three, Uzbekistan moved past Kazakhstan into fourth, and Thailand, Iran and Bahrain were all competing for a place in the top five.
Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh will contest their squash singles finals tomorrow after reaching those finals by defeating Satomi Watanabe and Muhammad Irfan respectively.
