Asian Games 2026: India edge China 238-237 to win men’s compound team gold and complete hat-trick

India’s men’s compound archery team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Rajesh Jadhav and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru defeated China 238-237 in the final at the Asian Games in Nagoya on September 30, 2026, completing a hat-trick of gold medals for India’s compound archers. The victory followed earlier golds for India’s mixed and women’s compound teams at the same Games.

The Indian trio had trailed by two points before their late recovery produced the one-point winning margin, while China’s final lineup included Jiahao Liao, Jinyi Liu and Jingyu Shi. India had reached the final after a 236-229 semifinal win over Korea’s Choi Eun Gyu, Choi Yonghee and Kim Jongho. Earlier in the tournament India’s compound mixed team of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav claimed gold and secured a 2028 Olympic quota place by beating Korea in a tense shoot-off, and the women’s team also finished on top. India thus successfully retained the three titles that it had won at the previous edition of the Games in Hangzhou.

In the final, India fell 58-60 behind after the opening end following two 9s in the third and fifth shot. They then produced six perfect 10s in the next end to trail 118-120 by the second end. By the third end India had cut the deficit to one point at 178-179.

The decisive phase arrived in the final end when China’s Jiahao Liao scored an 8, while India delivered flawless shooting in the closing six arrows to overturn the deficit and secure the 238-237 win. The match outcome completed India’s sweep of the compound team golds at these Games.

India’s semifinal victory over Korea, by 236-229, set up the meeting with China in the final; the Chinese trio that contested the gold-medal match was Jiahao Liao, Jinyi Liu and Jingyu Shi. The mixed team pairing of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav had earlier clinched the mixed team gold and the Olympic quota in a shoot-off against Korea, and the women’s team also topped their event.

With the men’s team gold in Nagoya, India has retained all three compound archery titles won at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, and the mixed team’s result has secured a confirmed 2028 Olympic quota place for India.
