Asian Games Day 4: India add five medals in Aichi-Nagoya including Mirabai Chanu silver

India won five medals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, with Mirabai Chanu securing silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting event and the contingent adding multiple bronzes.

Those five additions took India's overall total to 12 — one gold, five silver and six bronze — placing the country 13th on the medal table; the sole gold came from the women's cricket team, which retained its Asian Games title on Tuesday. Wednesday's other medallists included bronze for Jay Meena and a bronze for the men's badminton team. Both the men's and women's skeet teams also finished third and contributed to the day's haul. These results formed part of the five medals India added on the day.

At the shooting range, the women's 10m air pistol trio of Manu Bhaker, Suruchi Singh and Esha Singh did not win medals in either the team or individual events; India's shooting podiums instead came from skeet. Both skeet teams took bronze, accounting for two of Wednesday's five medals for India. The skeet results ensured India did not leave the shooting range empty-handed.

Roshibina Devi settled for silver in women's Sanda 60kg, a result reported alongside earlier coverage that had her scheduled to face China's Zhang Xiaoyu in the final at 6:10am IST. Satnam-Salman also took a bronze medal among the day's early winners. Roshibina had been described in live updates as one of India's biggest medal hopes for the event.
