Asian Games: Mirabai Chanu and Manu Bhaker spearhead India’s programme in Aichi-Nagoya on September 23

Mirabai Chanu and Manu Bhaker headline India’s schedule at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, September 23, as the country competes on Day 4 of the tournament. India will contest events across 102 competitions in 17 sports and will look to add to its medal tally.

Double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker is set to contest the women's 10m air pistol qualification alongside Suruchi Inder Singh and Esha Singh, with the trio also entered in the team event and the individual final should they progress. Mirabai Chanu begins her weightlifting campaign in the women's 49kg category and is aiming to win her first Asian Games medal, while Gyaneshwari Yadav is scheduled to compete later in the women's 53kg event.

The Indian men's badminton team, already assured of a medal after beating Japan in the quarterfinals, will meet China in the semifinal on Wednesday. India's listed squad for the tie includes Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth, Tharun Mannepalli and the doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag. The team will be aiming to book a place in the gold medal match.

Wushu competitor Roshibina Devi will contest the women's 60kg Sanda semifinal and faces Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas for a spot in the final. The Indian women's hockey team will play Thailand in a Pool B match after winning their opening two fixtures. India will be aiming for a third straight victory in Pool B.

Fencing events feature Naorem Mina Devi and Ashitha Stalinraj in the women's foil and Karan Singh and Gisho Nidhi K.P. in the men's sabre. Several Indian rowers are also scheduled to compete across heats in different rowing events during the day. These entries add to a full national programme spread across multiple disciplines on September 23.

With medal events scheduled in shooting and weightlifting and key contests in badminton, hockey and wushu, Wednesday promises to be a busy day for the Indian contingent as they seek further podium finishes on Day 4 of the Asian Games.
