The 2026 men's Rugby League World Cup features ten teams, eight of which qualified via their performances at the 2022 tournament: Australia, New Zealand, England, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Lebanon. The first seven in that list are the top seven on the IRL rankings, while Lebanon are ranked 23rd.

France and the Cook Islands secured the remaining places through regional playoffs; the Cook Islands are ranked eighth and France are ranked 11th. The tournament is being played under NRL rules, including six players on the interchange bench with up to four to be used. Pool A contains Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Cook Islands, with the top two advancing to the semi-finals, while Pool B (England, Samoa, Lebanon) play Pool C (Tonga, Papua New Guinea, France) and the top two on a combined table also qualify. The winner of Pool A will face the runner-up from Pools B&C in Sydney, the winner of Pools B&C will face the runner-up from Pool A in Newcastle, the group phase will take place over three weekends with semi-finals on the fourth weekend, and the final is scheduled in Brisbane on 15 November. Ten locations will host matches, eight in Australia — Sydney (Allianz Arena), Sydney (Commbank Arena), Brisbane, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Townsville, Wollongong and Perth — while Port Moresby will host two Papua New Guinea matches and Christchurch will stage one New Zealand fixture.
