On the second day of the second multi-day Youth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Tanmay Baloda’s four for 26 left India under-19 in control despite Spencer Green taking seven for 110. Australia under-19 were 86 for four at stumps, trailing the hosts by 55 runs.

Australia had been dismissed for 174 in the first innings and India under-19 were earlier bowled out for 315 in 78.4 overs, giving the hosts a 141-run lead. Baloda added four wickets in the second innings to increase his match tally to a 10-for.

Leg-spinner Spencer Green operated as Australia’s primary strike bowler through the morning session and removed India’s overnight batters Kushagra Ojha (29) and Yashbardhan Chauhan (52) in consecutive overs. Green finished the match figures for the innings at seven for 110.

With only the odd ball turning, Aryan Yadav (30) and Manal Chauhan (34) rotated the strike and found the fence occasionally to keep the score ticking. After lunch Chauhan miscued Green while Thomas Vaseo rushed Aryan to clean him up, breaking that partnership.

Green then claimed the wickets of Mohit Ulva and Ayaan Akram in successive overs, further denting India’s lower order. Abhiprai Biswas responded with an aggressive cameo, slog-sweeping his first ball for six and taking the aerial route when possible.

Biswas reached fifty off 36 balls before he missed a straighter delivery to give Green his seventh scalp. India added 42 more runs through the last-wicket stand before Baloda’s four for 26 put his side in an advantageous position with the ball.

The scores: Australia u-19 174 & 86/4 in 26 overs (Tanmay Baloda 4/26) vs. India u-19 315 in 78.4 overs (Yashbardhan Chauhan 52, Abhiprai Biswas 73, Spencer Green 7/110). India head into the third day in a commanding spot.
