Barry-Murphy confident of more Cardiff signings before Tuesday deadline

Brian Barry-Murphy said Cardiff City will make further additions to their squad before Tuesday's transfer deadline after Saturday's 2-2 league draw with Sheffield United. He added he was optimistic more deals would be completed, telling reporters: "I hope so," and "I feel confident [more deals will happen]. We have time yet."

Cardiff have drawn all three of their league games so far this season and have made four summer signings to date. Poland international Krystian Bielik, 28, was their fourth recruit after joining from West Bromwich Albion in midweek; Lincoln midfielder Jack Moylan also joined recently. The club completed a permanent deal for goalkeeper Nathan Trott following his loan spell last season and re-signed Calum Scanlon on loan.

Bielik was thrown straight into the starting XI for Saturday's game and Barry-Murphy praised his debut. "I thought he did a great debut, really good," Barry-Murphy said. "He has not played a lot so he was probably feeling the pace of the game I think throughout the first half, but in the second half I thought he showed his real quality and calmness and composure."

The centre-back limped off in the closing stages but the manager expressed confidence over the issue. "I was slightly concerned when I saw him go down but I think it's just pretty bad cramps, so hopefully he'll be OK," Barry-Murphy said.

Cardiff had taken the lead inside 80 seconds through Jack Moylan but trailed after seven minutes when Tom Cannon converted a penalty and Callum O'Hanlon scored with a neat finish. They were level before half-time thanks to Cian Ashford and created opportunities in the second half without finding a winner.

Barry-Murphy reflected on his side's response to falling behind, saying: "We knew the strengths of Sheffield United and we knew what we had to do to try to be effective in the game. When you lose two quick goals it's easy to go away from that game-plan, but the players showed a lot of courage and a really strong mentality to still play really brave football, really committed football and created good chances "We created chances in the second half to win the game but we just didn't take them."

Barry-Murphy reiterated the club's recruitment remains active, adding: "We've been pretty consistent, we want to improve the squad. The players that we've brought in we feel have done that, but there's more to come." The immediate focus is on completing further business before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
