BBC Sport launches Match of the Day Predictor as new season begins
On 18 August 2026, BBC Sport introduced the Match of the Day Predictor as the new club season got under way, offering a weekly prediction game for football fans.
The feature is a rebrand of BBC Sport’s World Cup Predictor and asks users to predict the outcomes of six fixtures selected from domestic and European competitions each week. The game is described as simple to play and is intended to run throughout the club season. This is available to UK users only.
Each round will open on a Friday, with the kick-off time of the first match acting as the deadline for that round’s submissions. Once a round has started, players have the remainder of the week to enter predictions for the next set of matches. The site notes that players can join at any time and join the latest round.
The Predictor includes a streaks feature: every consecutive round a player participates in adds one to their streak, while missing a round resets that streak to zero. Users are encouraged to check in weekly to maintain and build their streaks.
To make selections users either choose a winner or a draw for each match, except in knockout fixtures where only winner options are presented. Players can click 'How to Play' for guidance, and once a prediction is submitted it cannot be altered; after submission participants must wait for the results to roll in.
