BCCI opens applications to fill Ajit Agarkar’s vacancy on men’s selection panel

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on October 6, 2026 in Mumbai invited applications to fill one vacancy on the men’s senior selection committee, two days after Ajit Agarkar’s contract expired. The invitation, issued via a media advisory, begins the formal process to appoint Agarkar’s successor.
The selection panel is currently operating without Agarkar and comprises four members. Pragyan Ojha has been asked to chair the committee on an interim basis and, among the remaining members, has the most Test appearances. Agarkar had been the committee chairman since July 2023 and was described as the panel’s most experienced Test player.
The BCCI’s advisory sets out the new member’s responsibilities as selecting the senior men’s team across formats, identifying talent and developing bench strength. The board also noted the appointment could indicate whether the convention of choosing Agarkar’s replacement from the West Zone will be continued.
To be eligible, applicants must have played at least seven Test matches, or 30 First Class matches, or 10 One-Day Internationals and 20 First Class matches. Candidates must have been retired for a minimum of five years. Any individual who has served on a BCCI Cricket Committee for a cumulative five years is ineligible to apply.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on October 14.
