BCCI seeks government clearance for proposed India white-ball tour of Bangladesh

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approached the Government of India for permission over a proposed Indian white-ball tour of Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reserved a window from August 19 to September 15, 2026, for the series.

The request follows a fallout earlier this year after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) released Mustafizur Rahman at the BCCI's instruction; Mustafizur was bought by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore at the IPL auction in December 2025 and was the only Bangladesh player purchased. KKR's decision to release Mustafizur was backed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia amid recent developments between the two countries. In response to those developments, the BCB boycotted the T20 World Cup hosted by India and decided its national team would not travel to India for the 2026 tournament, citing security reasons.

The BCB also requested the International Cricket Council to move Bangladesh’s matches out of India, but that request was refused. The Bangladesh government ordered an indefinite suspension of the broadcast and promotion of the Indian Premier League in Bangladesh. India had been due to tour Bangladesh in August 2025 for a six-match white-ball series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, but that tour was later postponed to September 2026.
