BCCI to House India Men’s Cricket Team Separately at Asian Games 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged separate accommodation in Nisshin for India’s men’s cricket team at the 20th Asian Games, which run from September 24 to October 3, 2026. The men’s side will not use the official Asian Games housing being used by most other participating teams.
All matches at the 20th Asian Games are scheduled to be played in Nisshin, and the overall Games run between September 24 and October 3. The women’s cricket tournament is already underway and India Women are competing in a semifinal on Saturday. Shreyas Iyer is captaining the men’s side and Harmanpreet Kaur leads the women’s team. Team India enter the Games as the current champions in both the men’s and women’s competitions.
India’s men’s team have received direct qualification to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament and the BCCI will send a full-strength squad. The board has organised the separate stay to accommodate the team and its extended support personnel.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained the decision, saying: “BCCI has arranged its own arrangement for the men’s team since the contingent is much bigger than the permissible number of members because of the size of the support staff. We don’t want to segregate the men’s team during the tournament.”
The travelling party will include players plus coaches, trainers, analysts, physios and additional support staff. Saikia said the board’s decision was not taken because of concerns about facilities in Japan and confirmed the women’s team are staying in the Games-provided accommodation because the size of their squad falls within the permissible number.
Under Asian Games norms, participating teams are usually accommodated by the Games management; the BCCI’s separate arrangements mean India’s men will be the only team in the tournament with different housing provided by their national board. The board cited limits on the Games’ permissible contingent size as the reason for the exception.
The Men’s Asian Games 2026 cricket competition begins on September 24, and India’s men are scheduled to play their match on September 28 at Korogi Sports Park.
