Beaugrand maintains perfect Championship Series record with Weihai win; Potter second

Cassandre Beaugrand beat Britain's Beth Potter to win the World Triathlon Championship Series race in Weihai on 29 August 2026, with Potter finishing second.

The 29-year-old secured her fourth consecutive victory in this season's Championship Series and maintained a perfect record. Beaugrand, described in the report as a two-time Olympic medallist, pulled clear in the closing stages of the event.

Olympic champion Beaugrand surged away in the final kilometre of the 10km run, crossing the line in one minute 49.20 seconds. Potter, an Olympic bronze medallist, finished six seconds behind and Germany's Lisa Tertsch was third a further 18 seconds back.

On the final lap, as Tertsch began to fade, Potter kept up the pressure but was unable to match Beaugrand's searing pace. The contest had remained close until that decisive move in the closing kilometre.

"This one was definitely not easy," said Beaugrand. "I was feeling great on the swim, great on the bike. The run was quite hard with Beth pushing the pace. I just tried my best to keep up and trust my finish."

Beaugrand left the two-lap 1500m swim in third behind Britain's Tilly Anema and Brazil's Vittoria Lopez. After a tight bike leg, when a pack of more than 30 cyclists formed at the front, Beaugrand, Potter and Tertsch broke away on the run.

Beaugrand's victory moved her ahead of Potter to the top of the World Triathlon Championship Series standings despite competing in fewer races this year.

In the men's race, Switzerland's Max Studer won in 1:41:08, with Spain's David Cantero del Campo 10 seconds back and Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk third a further seven seconds behind.

There is one more regular-season event in the Czech Republic on 13 September, before the Grand Final in Spain on 23 September.
