Bengaluru FC extend Soham Varshneya’s contract through 2029
Bengaluru FC announced on 21 August 2026 that 22-year-old midfielder Soham Varshneya has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028-29 season.
A graduate of the Bengaluru FC academy, Varshneya moved through the club’s development pathway before stepping up from reserve-team football to the senior squad during the 2025-26 campaign. He produced 14 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances for Bengaluru’s Reserve Team in 2024-25, a season that ended with the B team fourth in the BDFA Super Division and reaching the Zonal Round of the Reliance Foundation Development League. Those performances earned him the BFC ‘B’ Team Player of the Year award and helped accelerate his promotion to first-team involvement.
Varshneya made his Indian Super League debut against Mumbai City FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on the final matchday of the 2025 league stage and went on to feature eight times in the 2025-26 ISL season, registering one assist. During that period he trained and competed alongside Bengaluru’s senior players, gaining experience of the pace and physical demands of top-level matches. The club has confirmed the new deal will keep him with the Blues until the end of the 2028-29 season.
At international level, Varshneya made his India U23 debut during the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Qatar in September 2025, an appearance cited by the club as part of his development trajectory. The extension follows that senior breakthrough and the additional exposure the midfielder received with national-age-team involvement.
Commenting on the contract, Soham said: “This club has always believed in me, and I believe in what we are building here. I’m happy, focused, and ready to give everything for Bengaluru FC.”
The club’s statement noted Varshneya will continue to develop alongside experienced squad members including Sunil Chhetri and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. The extension provides the midfielder with stability within the environment that nurtured his rise from the academy to the first team.
With his contract running through the 2028-29 season, Varshneya will aim to convert the minutes and opportunities he has already received into a more regular role in Bengaluru FC’s senior squad.
