Benjamin Sesko ruled out of Manchester United v Tottenham at Old Trafford with shin problem

Benjamin Sesko was ruled out of Manchester United’s Matchday 6 Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The Slovenian forward missed the game because of a persistent shin problem that required further medical tests.
Manchester United entered the match as heavy favourites while Tottenham sat at the bottom of the league table. The hosts had been without a win in their previous three games and had drawn 1-1 with Fulham in their most recent outing. Michael Carrick, Manchester United’s head coach, faced added pressure to end that run but had to contend with Sesko’s absence. Sesko had joined Manchester United from RB Leipzig last season.
Club staff confirmed Sesko would miss the Tottenham match after assessment of the shin complaint, with Carrick saying the issue needed further tests before a return date could be set. The striker had also been absent from the starting lineup for the previous fixture against Fulham.
Sesko’s current problem affects a similar area to an earlier injury he suffered last May against Liverpool, which had forced him to miss the entire pre-season schedule. Carrick declined to call the new issue a direct recurrence, saying: “It’s not the exact issue. It’s a similar area, but it’s not the exact same thing again. And we’re kind of still working through it a little bit of seeing how long the issue will be. We’re hoping that it’ll be soon, obviously, but at this moment it’s still not quite clear.”
Carrick said the club were exploring options to speed Sesko’s recovery and facilitate his return to first-team action. “Yeah, there’s different things to look at. I think he had recovered really well actually from the initial one, and there was a lot of time, and sometimes things get thrown up,” Carrick said. “The body does certain things, and we’ve got to react to that and try and get him back as quick as we can.”
In Sesko’s absence for the Manchester United side selected against Tottenham, Carrick deployed Matheus Cunha as the No. 9, with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo starting on the wings.
Manchester United had not confirmed a return date for Sesko, with Carrick saying the club were still assessing how long the injury would last.
