Berrington and Robertson propel Scotland to 170-run win over Canada at Forthill
Scotland beat Canada by 170 runs at Forthill in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series on 13 August 2026, powered by a 120 from captain Richie Berrington and a six-wicket debut for Lyle Robertson.
Scotland posted 347-7 from their 50 overs, with Berrington making 120, Brandon McMullen 64, Matthew Cross 51 not out and Michael Jones 41; Jack Jarvis contributed 30 off 14 balls. Openers Finlay McCreath and Michael English were removed early as Scotland fell to 25-2 in the seventh over before a 140-run third-wicket stand between Berrington and McMullen rebuilt the innings.
Berrington, 39, reached his seventh one-day international century, striking four sixes; "Berrington's seventh one-day international century included four sixes, taking his overall haul to 90 - a new Scottish record, overtaking George Munsey's 87." He was also involved in the field when Canada lost their first wicket in the third over of the reply, taking a catch off the bowling of Mark Watt.
Canada were dismissed for 177 in 35 overs, Pargat Singh top-scoring with 42. The 23-year-old Falkland off-spinner Lyle Robertson finished with six for 52 on his international debut and "picked up his first international wicket as Harsh Thaker picked out Oliver Davidson on the midwicket boundary" before taking five scalps from his final 15 deliveries to end with those figures.
Robertson accounted for Shreyas Movva and Zahid Shirzad in successive balls as part of his five-wicket burst, nearly completing a hat-trick when he had number 11 Kaleem Sana in his sights; he "ripped one back through bat and pad with the last ball of his spell to seal a massive win and cap a dream debut."
Scotland were already assured of a place in the World Cup qualifier following last week's victory over the same opponents, and having beaten the United Arab Emirates on Sunday the defending champions are now top of the World Cup League 2 standings, although they have played four more matches than the United States, who sit two points behind.
