On 10 August 2026 a consortium that includes Jeff Bezos advanced talks to acquire about a 30% stake in Liverpool Football Club, BBC Sport has been told. The group is led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

Owners Fenway Sports Group confirmed last month that the group had "expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club". FSG bought Liverpool in a £300m deal in 2010. The ownership group previously sold a minority stake in the club to global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity.

Amit Bhatia is the son-in-law of Indian billionaire businessman Lakshmi Mittal. He had been a director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers for 18 years. Bhatia relinquished his stake in Queens Park Rangers last month.

Jeff Bezos is an American businessman and the founder of e-commerce giant Amazon. He is the fourth-richest person in the world. According to Forbes, the 62-year-old has an estimated net worth of $256bn (£192bn).

The reported investor group brings together figures from business and technology sectors, with Bhatia named as leader and Eduardo Saverin listed among its members. BBC Sport was told the discussions concern a strategic minority holding of roughly 30% in Liverpool. The advanced nature of the talks was the detail shared with the broadcaster.

As of the article's publication on 10 August 2026, discussions between the consortium and Liverpool's owners were reported to be progressing over a potential minority investment in the club.
