Bournemouth sign Sevilla right-back Juanlu for up to £11.1m

Bournemouth have completed the signing of Spanish right-back Juanlu Sanchez from Sevilla, the club announced on 6 August 2026, with the 22-year-old joining the south-coast side in a deal worth up to £11.1m.

Juanlu arrives with more than 100 senior appearances for Sevilla and has experience in the Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and La Liga. He was part of Spain's Olympic squad in 2024, scoring the match-winning goal in the semi-final against Morocco and then helping Spain beat France in the final. The player’s age and the breadth of competitions he has featured in formed part of Bournemouth’s rationale for the signing.

"I am very happy, both for me and for my family. We had a lot of desire to come here and finally I can say that I am a player of Bournemouth," Juanlu told the club. Speaking on his arrival, the Cherries' president of football operations, Tiago Pinto, said: "Juanlu has an excellent level of experience at just 22, and we're really pleased to add him to Marco's squad. "With Sevilla, he has shown his qualities domestically and in European competitions, so we know of his ability to compete at the top level consistently. "He is young still and hungry for more, so adds further invaluable characteristics to the squad ahead of the upcoming season. "We're really looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress here with us and for how he will develop with Marco and the team."

Bournemouth will pay an initial £9.4m for Juanlu, with a further £1.7m in add-ons, BBC Sport believes, taking the total package to £11.1m. He is the Cherries' third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Antonio Silva from Benfica for £25.7m and striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £25.7m earlier in the transfer window.

Sevilla have shown an interest in striker Enes Unal, who Bournemouth are keen to sell, according to the club report, while Unal also has options in Turkey and Saudi Arabia as he seeks a move this summer. Senior sources at the Vitality Stadium have told the club that the club’s young attacking trio — Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan and Alex Scott — are not for sale.

Bournemouth boss Marco Rose is seeking a number two goalkeeper capable of challenging Djordje Petrovic as the club continue pre-season. The squad are preparing for a historic campaign in which they will compete in the Europa League for the first time.
