Cardiff beat Ospreys 26-0 at St Helen's in a United Rugby Championship derby on 31 October 2026. Tom Bowen scored two tries and Cardiff claimed a bonus-point victory with further touchdowns from Josh Adams and hooker Tom Howe.

Cardiff lifted themselves back into the top half of the URC with the win, finishing the first league block in seventh while Ospreys sit ninth. The match was played in front of a 5,592 sell-out at the revamped St Helen's and was the second game at the ground after Ospreys' opening victory against Dragons; the occasion was marred by the continued whistle of referee Ben Breakspear. Ospreys had previously failed to score in a 23-0 defeat against Munster in October 2024. Adams was the only Welsh region-based member of Steve Tandy's squad to be sent out for game time prior to the Nations Championship; Cardiff were without six other Wales squad members, including Rhys Barratt, Liam Belcher, Teddy Williams, Alex Mann, James Botham and Taine Basham, while Ospreys sat out Tom Rogers, Dan Edwards, Reuben Morgan-Williams and Gareth Thomas.

Cardiff dominated the early phases and were rewarded when Bowen finished with a walk-in try. Ospreys appeared to reply when prop Steffan Thomas was driven over, but the television match official ruled the score out after deciding Cardiff scrum-half Johan Mulder had prevented the grounding. Cardiff then produced a well-worked scrum set-piece move that allowed Bowen to sprint over for his second try.

Steffan Emanuel played a key creative role, nearly creating a third try with a break and kick, and after a Dan Thomas turnover penalty Emanuel's kick was latched onto by Josh Adams for another score. The scoring summary for the game read: Tries — Bowen 2, Adams, Howe; Conversions — Evans 2, Sheedy. Tom Bowen made 15 appearances for Cardiff in the 2025-26 season and scored eight tries.

Ospreys suffered a further blow when flanker Ross Moriarty sustained a head injury and was replaced by Morgan Morse. Ospreys began the second half with scrummaging superiority while Cardiff replaced props Keiron Assiratti and Danny Southworth with Scott Sio and Javan Sebastian; Adams received treatment for a knee issue but was able to continue. Ospreys co-captain Sam Parry was held up over the Cardiff line, and Cardiff were warned for persistent penalties amid audible frustration from Ospreys players about officials' interpretation of the breakdown.

Teenage replacement hooker Tom Howe won a crucial turnover penalty and, after being driven over, secured the bonus-point try for Cardiff; the article notes Howe as an 18-year-old. Emanuel denied Keelan Giles in the dying seconds with a covering tackle; the report described the second half as "woeful" and short on quality, but Cardiff secured maximum points. Ospreys: Hopkins; Morgan, Watkin (co-capt), K Williams, Giles; Wilde, L Davies; S Thomas, Parry (co-capt), Botha, Ratti, Smith, Wright, Moriarty, M Morris. Replacements: Daniel, C Jones, Warren, Sutton, Morse, H Williams, S Jac Jones, Boshoff. Cardiff: Young; Adams, Malan, Emanuel, Bowen; J Evans, Mulder; Southworth, Hughes, Assiratti, McNally (capt), Thornton, Paea, Thomas, Lawrence. Replacements: Howe, Sio, Sebastian, Manz, de la Rua, A Davies, Sheedy, Darwin-Lewis. Assistant referees: Carwyn Sion & Marc Caudle (Wales).

The United Rugby Championship now takes a five-week break with the Nations Championship staged in November. Cardiff head into the interlude in seventh place in the standings and Ospreys in ninth.
