Brighton reject Liverpool’s £50m offer for Yankuba Minteh

On 20 August 2026 Liverpool saw a £50m bid for Yankuba Minteh rejected by Brighton as the club pursued additions ahead of the transfer deadline. The approach formed part of Liverpool’s search for two wide forwards this summer.
Liverpool’s interest in wide options has included Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh on a shortlist of targets. Brighton, who have lost Danny Welbeck to Chelsea and have Kaoru Mitoma out injured, rebuffed the approach for the 22-year-old winger.
Minteh has scored nine goals in 66 Premier League appearances since joining Brighton from Newcastle for £30m two years ago. He is reportedly open to becoming a Liverpool player but is recovering from surgery after suffering a leg injury in a pre-season friendly against Roma this month and could be sidelined for another eight weeks.
Liverpool have added the versatile Victor Muñoz to their forward options this summer for £34.5m. The club remain yet to fill the right-sided void created by Mohamed Salah’s departure. Minteh has mostly operated on the right for Fabian Hürzeler’s team.
PSG’s £145m valuation of Barcola has forced Liverpool to consider alternative wide options. One of those alternatives is the France international’s teammate Ibrahim Mbaye, though interest in the 18-year-old has not developed into an offer.
Curtis Jones has been given permission to undergo a medical in Italy after Liverpool agreed a £30m deal with Inter for the midfielder. The Italian champions made a breakthrough in their long-running pursuit of the 25-year-old when offering €30m plus €5m in bonuses on Wednesday.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool increase their offer for the Gambia international, with any decision likely to be resolved before the transfer deadline.
