Arsenal recovered from a 1-0 deficit to beat Leeds 2-1 at home in a Premier League match on October 10, 2026, with Bruno Guimarães scoring nine minutes after coming on. The win ended Leeds’ unbeaten run and came after a lengthy international break that Arsenal had sought to use to reset their form.

Arsenal were far from fluent and their defence looked more vulnerable than last season, but the impact from the bench and a surge in belief after the equaliser altered the contest; the home support put it: "we know who we are." Daniel Farke named the same Leeds XI he had selected for the previous three matches, while Mikel Arteta made four changes to his side.

The first half was a tight affair that nevertheless favoured Leeds for clear openings, with wide deliveries repeatedly troubling Arsenal’s back line. In the 21st minute Kai Havertz headed straight at James Trafford from eight yards, and in the 25th minute a Gabriel Gudmundsson delivery was met by Jayden Bogle but blocked by Anton Stach. Two minutes later Bogle forced a save from David Raya after collecting a loose ball from an Ao Tanaka cross, and Raya produced a near-identical stop to deny Gudmundsson with a minute to go before half-time.

Leeds dominated the opening 15 minutes of the second half, pressing Arsenal in midfield and running in behind the full-backs, with Justin and Tanaka both seeing long-range efforts go narrowly wide. The visitors took the lead in the 55th minute when James Justin fired home after Gudmundsson ran off Ben White and delivered a low cross that Raya could not cut out; Noah Okafor nearly doubled the advantage three minutes later but failed to get the final touch to a Bogle cross.

Arsenal levelled within three minutes when Noni Madueke's deep cross found Ben White at the back post; White's header evaded Trafford and was bundled home by Riccardo Calafiori for his second Premier League goal of the season. Immediately after the equaliser Arteta made a triple substitution and introduced Bruno Guimarães, who snapped into tackles, moved the ball at pace and pushed to increase Arsenal's tempo.

Nine minutes after coming on Bruno scored the decisive goal. The move developed down the left with Bukayo Saka replacing Madueke and exchanging a one-two with Odegaard; the captain then played a short pass to Declan Rice, who — with Bruno covering him — had entered the area and backheeled the ball to the edge of the box where Bruno steered it into the corner of Trafford's goal. Arsenal produced further chances, including Odegaard from two yards and Saka in a one-on-one with Trafford, but the misses did not change the outcome.

The Gunners’ starting XI included five Englishmen, the first time that had happened since 1999, and the visitors left the field looking shocked.
