Brydon Carse has been charged by the Cricket Regulator with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations over an incident in Derby in the early hours of August 23, 2026, after celebrating with Durham players following their County Championship win over Derbyshire, and he remains available for England selection.

Carse, 31, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in the early hours of August 23 and footage of him in handcuffs circulated on social media before he was de-arrested. The episode resulted in Carse being dropped from England's Test squad for the remainder of their series against Pakistan. Derbyshire Police confirmed they had investigated allegations of assault but closed that investigation last month. He was also omitted from England's T20I and ODI squads for the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

The Cricket Regulator confirmed on Friday that Carse had been charged under Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations. "Following a Cricket Regulator investigation, Brydon Carse has been charged with breaching Regulation 3.2 of the ECB Professional Conduct Regulations, in relation to events in Derby in the early hours of the morning on August 23 2026," the regulator said in a statement. "The matter will now be referred to the independent Cricket Discipline Panel for adjudication. "As the process is ongoing, no further comment will be made."

Regulation 3.2 states that no participant may behave in a manner, or commit an act or omission, that is improper, prejudicial to the interests of cricket, or could bring the ECB, the game or a cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute. Despite the charge, the Cricket Regulator has confirmed Carse remains eligible for England selection. The decision to leave him out of the current white-ball squads was made by selectors and was not a suspension resulting from the disciplinary process.

England figures have publicly commented on the episode. England white-ball captain Harry Brook said last month: "I'm very good mates with Carsey. I've spoken a lot with him," Brook said. "Those conversations are private. "He just needs time away from the international scene. He's working on a few things behind the scenes and hopefully he'll be ready at some point in the future." England's limited-overs head coach Brendon McCullum said: "I've spoken to Carsey a lot and it's the same message - you need to make good decisions off the field that allow you to be able to be the best version of yourself," McCullum said. "As far as Carsey is concerned, it's a good chance for him now to get his house in order and then push for selection for the next opportunity that arises." Test captain Joe Root had earlier said: "I don't think I'm speaking out of turn in saying he's very upset, very apologetic and understands his actions. I'm sure when he gets his chance, he will say that himself."

The formal charge will be decided by the independent Cricket Discipline Panel, and the Cricket Regulator has indicated it will make no further comment while the disciplinary process is ongoing.
