Bungie says Destiny will continue, pledges future projects and return of vaulted content

Bungie said in a YouTube developer update on September 22, 2026, that the Destiny franchise is not finished and that the studio plans more games and future projects. The statement followed an earlier announcement that support for Destiny 2 would end a few months prior.

Studio Head Poria Torkan and Head of Product Josh Deane appeared in the developer update and confirmed Bungie is not abandoning the Destiny universe, saying there are more stories to tell and plans to expand the franchise with future titles and projects. The studio did not announce a specific new game during the update and described these efforts as part of its long-term plans.

The developer update included confirmation that previously vaulted material will return, specifying classic campaigns, raids and destinations that had been removed from the game will be brought back. Bungie acknowledged that restoring older content is technically challenging and said the process will take time to ensure everything functions correctly on more recent versions of the game.

The report said those decisions came after sustained fan backlash and disappointment, describing Marathon as a "massive AAA flop" and noting fans were unhappy with the end of Destiny 2 support. It added that players had launched petitions, increased concurrent player numbers and posted comments on PlayStation and Bungie streams and posts, and characterised those actions as factors that contributed to Bungie’s announcement of additional Destiny projects.

Bungie said it will share additional information about its future projects and the timetable for the return of legacy content in the coming months.
