CAF says Africa Cup of Nations will return to two-year cycle

The African Football Confederation (Caf) announced on 30 October 2026 that the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will revert to being held every two years.

In a statement Caf said it had: "Unanimously decided that the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will return to taking place every two years." The decision reverses a choice made last year to move Afcon to a four-year cycle.
