Carlos Alcaraz arrives at the Paris Masters 2026 as the second seed and World No. 3 and will begin his campaign against Alex Michelsen in the round of 32 on November 5 after receiving a first-round bye. He is fresh from beating Alex De Minaur in straight sets in the Vienna final and carries a five-match winning streak into Paris.

Alcaraz claimed his fourth title of the season in Vienna but has never progressed beyond the quarter-finals in Paris; his best run came in 2022 when he retired with an abdominal injury against Holger Rune in the last eight, and last year he lost his opener to Cameron Norrie. A Paris title would make him the third player after Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to win Masters 1000 events in five consecutive years, and the tournament represents his last chance to achieve that this season.

As a top-eight seed Alcaraz skips the first round, setting up a match against the winner of Alex Michelsen and Jiri Lehecka, who are 1-1 head-to-head. Lehecka arrives on a short turnaround after losing the Basel Open final to Valentin Vacherot in three sets. The 23-year-old beat both Lehecka and Michelsen on his path to triumph in Tokyo a few months back.

Ugo Humbert has already won his opener, beating Botic van de Zandschulp in three sets, and the winner of Brandon Nakashima versus Matteo Berrettini will face Humbert in the next round. Humbert is highlighted as the toughest of that trio for Alcaraz after defeating him in Paris in the third round in 2024. The likely quarter-final opponent from that quarter is either Arthur Fils or Taylor Fritz.

Arthur Fils begins against qualifier Tomas Machac, who hit 15 aces and held all ten of his service games to beat Kyrian Jacquet; Fils retired from his Basel quarter-final because of an injury but said he is fine to play in Paris. Taylor Fritz beat qualifier Benjamin Bonzi in his first-round match and previously contested Alcaraz at the 2026 Laver Cup, where he fell short.

Daniil Medvedev is the projected semi-final opponent for Alcaraz in that half; Medvedev opens against Ignacio Buse and has already qualified for Turin. Alcaraz beat Medvedev in the Vienna semi-finals, though Medvedev defeated him earlier this year in Indian Wells. Rafael Jodar, who made his top-10 debut with a straight-sets win over Alejandro Tabilo and now plays Casper Ruud, is fighting for the last Turin place; Karen Khachanov and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are also in this section and fifth seed Flavio Cobolli has withdrawn.

The opposite half of the draw includes several players vying for ATP Finals qualification, led by Alexander Zverev, who arrives as the new World No. 1. The Spaniard called him the best player of the year in Vienna, but Zverev was stunned by Alex De Minaur in the Vienna semi-finals. Novak Djokovic, who won the Beijing title earlier this month, lost his opening matches in Shanghai and Basel but opened Paris with a three-set win over Basel champion Valentin Vacherot.

De Minaur’s loss to Alcaraz in the Vienna final extended his losing streak against the Spaniard to 7-0. Other potential rivals in the half include Ben Shelton, the Canada Masters champion and US Open finalist, and Frances Tiafoe, who lost his Vienna opener to Lorenzo Musetti. Alcaraz and Djokovic are level at 5-5 in their head-to-head, and the 7-time Grand Slam champion has stated that improving his poor record in Paris is a primary objective this week.

Alcaraz’s published projected path lists Round of 32: Alex Michelsen; Round of 16: Ugo Humbert/Brandon Nakashima/Matteo Berrettini; Quarter-final: Arthur Fils/Taylor Fritz; Semi-final: Daniil Medvedev/Rafael Jodar; Final: Alexander Zverev/Novak Djokovic/Alex De Minaur/Ben Shelton/Frances Tiafoe. He will open against Alex Michelsen in the round of 32 on November 5 after receiving a first-round bye.
