Carlotta Wamser has completed a transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Manchester City on a four-year contract, the club announced on 31 August 2026 as City prepare to begin their WSL title defence. The 22-year-old full-back, who is capable of playing at left-back or right-back, is City’s third signing of the summer.

Wamser moved to Leverkusen from Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in July 2025 and made her senior international debut for Germany in 2025. Manchester City previously signed defender Niamh Charles from Chelsea and forward Beth Mead from Arsenal this summer.

City said Wamser’s arrival will be a boost to the WSL champions amid a list of injury absentees that includes Niamh Charles, Grace Clinton, Vivianne Miedema, Jade Rose and Laura Wienroither. The club framed the signing as reinforcement to the squad ahead of competitive commitments.

Wamser has won 14 caps for Germany after progressing through the national underage system and was part of the team that won the Under-17 European Championship in 2019. Those international credentials were cited in the club’s announcement.

On joining City, Wamser said: "I had a perfect welcome here and I already feel very good here and I look forward to my time here in Manchester," adding, "The English league is the best league in the world and Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world."

City director of football Therese Sjogran commented: "We are delighted to welcome Carlotta to the club. "She is a player we've admired for some time and know she will bring energy, passion and a willingness to learn to the team. "For such a young, exciting talent to trust us with the next step of her career is something we feel conveys a strong message of what we are building here."

Manchester City begin their WSL title defence at home to Birmingham City on Sunday.
