CD Projekt Red sets The Witcher 4 for 2028 release window, will skip Gamescom 2026

CD Projekt Red said in a statement on August 25, 2026 that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window and that the game will not appear at Gamescom 2026.

The studio provided a release timeline for the first time while confirming no exact launch date has been set. According to Michał Nowakowski, the company is aiming to release the title sometime in 2028 and has told fans to be patient: “Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait,” Nowakowski said while discussing the game’s development.

The Witcher 4 entered full production in 2024, and the studio has described the project as the studio’s most ambitious project ever.

CD Projekt Red said the new game will begin a fresh saga with Ciri as the main playable character, following Geralt’s story in The Witcher 3.

The studio has outlined gameplay ambitions for The Witcher 4 that include a much larger and more immersive open world, improved visuals, deeper exploration and a more dynamic gameplay system.

While The Witcher 4 will not be shown at Gamescom 2026 because the studio is not yet ready to reveal additional gameplay, CD Projekt Red has directed attention to the existing franchise schedule: the Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC is slated for release in 2027.

CD Projekt Red will present the first official look and gameplay of the Witcher 3: Songs of the Past DLC at the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live event, the company confirmed.
