Jesus de Miguel, a 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, died on Tuesday, one day after going into cardiac arrest following a collision during a Segunda División match against Andorra, the club said.

The match was stopped seven minutes into stoppage time after De Miguel collapsed following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono; Owono had rushed from his area to clear a long ball and struck the striker in the chest with his knee, and he received a straight red card.

Players from both teams called for medical aid as De Miguel lay still on the pitch; he received medical attention on the field for about five minutes before an ambulance transported him to hospital.

Born in Madrid in 1996, De Miguel had moved from Castellón to Tenerife before the 2025–2026 season, where he scored 11 goals; he was a Spain Under-21 international and a member of CD Tenerife’s squad.

Announcing his death, the club said: “Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda.” The club also posted in Spanish: "Rotos de dolor, con un nudo en la garganta y sin poder creer que esto sea verdad, desde el CD Tenerife comunicamos el trágico fallecimiento, este martes, día 3 de noviembre de 2026, a las 8:00 horas, de Jesús de Miguel Alameda. De Miguel was honoured by football teams across Spain following the incident. “Our thoughts and support are with his family, friends and loved ones during these difficult times,” FC Barcelona said in a statement, while “Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family, his teammates, his club, and all his loved ones,” Real Madrid said.

In a show of respect and sympathy for De Miguel’s family, teammates, and Tenerife supporters, the governing body also cancelled the formal presentation for Spain’s Under-21 international versus Japan.
