Championship roundup: Stoke move top as Norwich rout Bristol City and Wrexham draw with Wolves

Stoke came from behind to beat Portsmouth 2-1, Norwich thumped Bristol City 5-0 at Ashton Gate, and Wrexham held Wolves to a 1-1 draw at Cae Ras in Championship matches on 7 November 2026.
Stoke recovered after Tyrese Shade put Portsmouth ahead after six minutes, with Jack McGlynn and Ben Wilmot turning the game around to secure a 2-1 win that represented their fifth successive away victory. McGlynn capitalised on goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid’s failure to hold on to a cross before Wilmot headed home a rebound, and the result moved Stoke to the top of the table, taking the spot from Middlesbrough for at least a couple of hours.
Wrexham drew 1-1 with Wolves after Adam Armstrong put the visitors ahead after 25 minutes and Lewis O’Brien levelled two minutes later with his first goal of the season. The visitors extended their unbeaten run to six matches, and Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were in attendance for the clubs’ seventh league meeting in 102 years and the first since 1988. Phil Parkinson said: “It’s always very uplifting for the people who work at the club, the staff and the players when Rob and Ryan come over. It is good to see their connection with the club, how much they care and their understanding of when people need a lift and bit of support. The crowd too is uplifted with the owners being in town.”
Norwich’s 5-0 victory at Ashton Gate was built on a 22nd-minute opener from Paris Maghoma, who picked up the ball 40 yards out and placed a low shot past Brad Collins from the left side of the box. Jason Knight’s mistimed header in the 53rd minute directed the ball to Harry Darling for the second, Maghoma laid on Andre Brooks’ third three minutes later, Jovon Makama turned in an Anthony Musaba cross, and Mathias Kvistgaarden added an 80th-minute penalty after being pulled down by Lisav Eissat. Home supporters chanted “You’re getting sacked in the morning” at Michael Skubala, whose team have already suffered five home league defeats this season. Philippe Clement said: “We are growing by the week. I am seeing boys becoming men, with clear signs of evolution from so many of our young players. That’s what we need if we are to get to where we want to be. We want to play attacking football, with goals coming from all over the pitch, not just from our attacking players. I am proud of the intensity, the discipline and the quality on the ball we are displaying. The players are hungry and full of desire.”
Derby recovered from a half-time deficit to beat Bolton 3-1 on Friday night, with Rúben Rodrigues giving Bolton the lead before Ryan Nyambe equalised just 39 seconds after the break with his first goal in more than 300 career appearances. Jack Robinson put Derby ahead three minutes after the restart and Rhian Brewster sealed the victory with his first goal of the season in stoppage time. Manager John Eustace credited the players after the turnaround and said: “It’s not about me, it’s about the group of players and I’m so pleased for them. The players have worked their socks off without any reward and then last two games we let ourselves down … Things haven’t been ideal but the way the group spoke was very pleasing for me.”
Middlesbrough, previously top before Stoke’s win, are away at Watford in a 3pm kick-off, while Birmingham and Swansea, level in the play-off positions on 26 points, meet at St Andrew’s.
