Chaturved’s 121 steers Madurai Panthers to record TNPL chase
N.S. Chaturved scored 121 off 47 balls to propel Madurai Panthers to victory over Vida Kovai Kings at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul on Saturday in the TNPL. The Panthers reached 240/4 in 19.3 overs, completing the highest successful chase in TNPL history with six wickets and three balls to spare.
Chaturved, who had aggregated 139 runs off 107 balls at a strike rate of 129.90 in TNPL 2025 without a fifty, produced an innings of 121 (47b, 15x4, 7x6) at a strike rate of 257.45 on Saturday. He brought up his maiden TNPL century off 40 deliveries, the fastest in the league’s history, and raced to fifty in 19 balls while repeatedly finding deep square leg and deep midwicket with pulls and sweeps.
C. Andre Siddarth top-scored for Vida Kovai Kings with 87 not out off 42 balls (8x4, 6x6) and B. Sachin made 84 off 43 balls (9x4, 5x6) as the Kings posted 239/4 in 20 overs, which was the highest team total at that stage of the day. S. Lokeshwar contributed 38 for the Kings while Gurjapneet Singh finished with bowling figures of 2/41.
In the chase Chaturved combined with Siddharth Mahadevan to add 162 runs off 74 deliveries, a new TNPL record for the second-wicket partnership. Mahadevan, listed as the Impact Player, scored 41 and B. Anirudh Sitaram remained unbeaten on 37 as Jhathavedh Subramanyan took 2/32 for the Kings.
Chaturved maintained his aggression after reaching triple figures, including hitting pacer R.S. Ambrish over cow corner and charging leg-spinner Jhathavedh Subramanyan to score a four through covers and a six over deep midwicket. His boundary count and intent ensured there was little slowdown in the run chase.
In the day’s other match, Trichy Grand Cholas chased down SKM Salem Spartans’ 152/9 in 20 overs to win by seven wickets, reaching 155/3 in 17 overs. Opener K. Rajkumar remained unbeaten on 67 (43b, 5x4, 3x6) for his maiden TNPL fifty, with J. Kousik making 46, while R. Kavin (38), C. Hari Nishaanth (36) and Nidhish Rajagopal (30) were key contributors for the Spartans; Antony Dhas returned 2/25 and Sanjay Yadav 2/18 with the ball.
