Chelsea signs Jordan Henderson on two-year deal after Brentford exit

Chelsea signed England midfielder Jordan Henderson on Monday (August 3, 2026) after his departure from Brentford last week, the club announced, with the player set to link up with the squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

"The midfielder, who has won eight trophies in his career, including the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, has signed a two-year contract with the Blues and will join his new team-mates ahead of the 2026-27 campaign," Chelsea said on its website. The 36-year-old Henderson is Chelsea’s oldest signing since BlueCo took over the club in 2022. Henderson won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 with Liverpool.

Henderson commented on his move, saying: "Given the size of the club, the manager (Xabi Alonso), who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down." He added: "I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction." Those remarks were included in the club's announcement.

The arrival of Henderson follows a series of signings by the Stamford Bridge club this off-season. Chelsea has previously added Danny Welbeck, Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra and Geovany Quenda ahead of the new campaign.

Henderson's two-year contract and experience in winning major honours were highlighted by Chelsea in the signing announcement, and the club confirmed he will join his new team-mates as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.
