The WTA 250 Chennai Open singles final between Janice Tjen and Magda Linette at the SDAT Stadium in Nungambakkam was postponed on Sunday.

The match, scheduled to follow the doubles final, had been set for a 6:30 p.m. start but was delayed three times by rain. After the rain eased, organisers dried the centre court and announced a 9 p.m. start, only for play to be called off an hour later because of smog from Deepavali firecrackers that created visibility issues. Accuweather described the air quality at that time as "unhealthy" and the doubles final finished without interruption.

Both players came onto the centre court and held a brief discussion with supervisor Sheetal Iyer before taking their kit bags and leaving. In an official statement the WTA said, "Due to unforeseen weather conditions, the Women’s Singles Final between Janice Tjen and Magda Linette has been postponed. The match will now take place tomorrow (November 9, 2026) at 11 a.m."

The tournament organisers confirmed the rescheduled match will be played at 11 a.m. on Monday, the reserve day for the event. The Tamil Nadu Tennis Association announced that spectators holding valid tickets for Sunday’s play will be allowed entry on Monday using the same tickets.

This was the third edition of the WTA 250 event and the main draw began with a complete washout on the opening day; rain had also interrupted play for an hour on the second day. The organisers have said that, for the foreseeable future, this is the last Tour-level event on Indian soil.

The tournament has been reallocated to Manila, the Philippines, for 2027 due to the growing popularity of Filipino star Alexandra Eala as well as the current time slot being unsuitable for Chennai due to the monsoon season.

The singles final will be played on Monday at 11 a.m. as the tournament's reserve-day fixture, and spectators with valid Sunday tickets may use those same tickets to attend.
